To The Last Drop

Dogs learning new tricks

As much as I hate to admit it….I am one of the dogs in the title. But first I will address my dog Charley and how he has had a week of discovery and learning. Charley is our 9 month old blue healer. He is a wonderful loving dog and was given the bad fate of a genetic hip defect. Thus, Charley underwent bilateral hip surgery last week. He is re-learning to walk and is wearing one of those ridiculously annoying cones on his head. Through it all, Charley has remained happy, determined and is learning many new things about himself and his ability to cope and move ahead with conviction.

I, too, am a dog learning new tricks. Designing, developing and running a business is a lot of “stuff” to learn. I got through the build-out, the business plans, the opening and the actual running of the business for the first time (not to mention, going back to work full-time for the first time in 19 years!). Yet, there is one aspect of the business that can put me over the edge, cause me to stress beyond words, and make me feel completely and fully incompetent….computer tasks!

I learned a new trick today though, and it has given me a window of confidence. My friend Steve patiently showed me how to Blog this entry and my weekly menus. Until today, right now, I would send it to him and he would enter it into Lucy’s Corner. Not tonight! Tonight it is me writing and entering my own blog. This is the kind of thing that gives me such pride and will cause many eye rolls from my three kids (maybe even Charley!). But nevertheless, I am on a roll, ready to learn lots of new tricks and ready to create a connection with my customers through the website and create a business that has roots and reaches out in many ways.

Charley and I have both learned a bit about ourselves this week- there is no stopping once the momentum is there! Next week- I will be back on Sunday with the blog and menu……
